A month old deer calf hiding in the ragwort! Aren’t I pretty!

The whole Red Deer herd crossing their ‘swimming pool’ to be rewarded with food on the arrival of the first Deer Safari.

This week we have starting shearing our 420 ewes. Jason, who joined our staff recently, will be shearing every day during this half-term week in the newly erected building which we have recently moved from the 'old farmyard'. He will be shearing about 50 each day and our visitors will have a chance to come and watch and talk to him about the wonderful fleeces he is taking off our sheep. Thankfully wool prices have risen somewhat this year, after a decade or more in the doldrums so as soon as he has finished shearing we shall be sending the bulging wool sacks off to the British Wool Marketing Board.
Hurry along to see Jason in action!

Today has been amazing! We have had 15 new arrivals in the last 24 hours including a set of twins (quite a rare occurance in Red Deer) - this is one of them born at 11.30 this morning whilst we were on our first safari. During the rest of the day there were new born calves everywhere with the twins being born during the second safari.
The Deer Safari is a 'must', but do remember to bring a camera.
The first calf this year was born on 24th May and since then has been hidden away in the reeds around the lake in the Park. We have 59 Hinds most of which we expect to be in calf to William or Harry our two master stags.
William and Harry are now both well on their way to growing their new set of antlers having shed last year's in early April. Our new stag, Rufus, who is only 2 years old, is also going to be sporting a big set of antlers for his age.

On 24th May our first deer calf of the season was born. 60 more calves are expected between June and July at Snettisham Park.
We also now offer children's art workshops. Please enquire for more information.

Our 2nd Lambing is now well under way with nearly half of the 160 ewes having given birth in the last week. We have 25 Orphan lambs, taken from triplets, which require bottle feeding, so please come and help!
This lambing is taking place in our new Shufflebottom building across from the Orchard where you will also see our large cattle which are being housed here whilst awaiting their new home which is currently being erected nearby.
Down in the Deer park the first Shellduck have arrived - one pair on the top pond. Every year we have at least one pair hatch out here.
Our calf house, in the old farmyard, is also full up with calves being reared on milk powder - they love sucking your fingers!
In the Deer Park our 'boss' stag Harry has just shed his 2009 antlers and begun growing his new set as can be seen from the two photos.
In the picture on the right you can see him after 1 week of growing his 2010 antlers.

As you can see, the sheep are quite happy with the snow and colder weather which we have been experiencing.
Lambing is now well underway which means sleepless nights for our staff and plenty of lambs for visitors to feed!
